Town population is 62 until rodeo weekend when thousands arrive
Over $44,000 in prizes for rodeo contestants plus belt buckles
Omaha, Neb. (Aug. 5, 2024) – The Silver Sage Pro Rodeo Committee is turning their ProRodeo weekend, Camp with the Cowboys, into a souvenir weekend with multiple entertainment options and contests for all ages. New in 2024 is the “Beer for a Year” contest featuring a beer cooler race on Saturday. Contestants provide their own cooler, helmet and must ride on top or inside the cooler, stated Craig Otto, rodeo chairman during a telephone interview. This weekend, August 9-10, 2024, marks the third anniversary of the rodeo. The entertainment features live music after the rodeo performed by Nathan Dean & The Damn Band from Arizona. Friday night all first responders and active-duty military with ID receive a free rodeo ticket.
In three years, the Silver Sage Guest Ranch has catapulted to the forefront of creating contests. Last year the barnyard animal scramble captured the amazement of parents. A few children won piglets, and other barnyard animals to take home. Fan favorite mutton bustin returns and entries are coming in from as far away as Chandler, South Dakota.
Pro Rodeo contestants will compete for a large purse with added prize money, $44,000, and daily belt buckles. The contestant with the highest mark score or fastest time in each event during the performance will win. Two sets of belt buckles will be given away for Friday and Saturday. Contestants entered in slack are not eligible for the added belt buckle prize.
Campers have plenty of pasture to set up for a weekend of socializing, live music, adult beverages, rodeo action and entertainment. The gates open at 4 p.m. with food trucks, a mechanical bull, axe throwing, face painting, petting zoo and shopping.
