South Dakota Bull Rider Mason Moody on a Hot Streak this Winter
Omaha, Nebraska (February 19, 2025) – Mason Moody from Letcher, South Dakota is on a hot streak regardless of the freezing winter temperatures. He won $9,542 during bracket three of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in February. He advanced into the qualifier section next. The rodeo ends on February 22, 2025.
Four inches of snow and ice didn’t stop Moody from riding Big Bucks ProRodeo’s bull, Crunch Time, for 85 points in Bismarck, North Dakota on February 7 during the Bismarck PRCA Rodeo. In January, Moody, scored 87 points at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. During the Badlands Circuit Finals in October 2024, he racked up two 87.5 point bull rides.
Stock Contractor Cody Flitton admitted his bull, Crunch Time, is a favorite among the contestants.
“Well, the biggest thing in bull riding is to draw a bull that will produce big numbers. So, when you see a bull like that next to your name you get excited and really makes you look forward to going to the rodeo and getting him rode,” emphasized Moody.
The 21-year-old cowboy’s winter run will continue across multiple states. He started New Year’s Eve in Gillette, Wyoming winning over $3,000. In January he rode in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, and Texas. This month he’s making the Texas Swing along the stop in North Dakota and Rapid City, South Dakota.
“Traveling this time of year really starts to wear on a guy, because no rodeos are really close together like they are in the summer. So, you are either spending lots of time driving or sitting in airports, explained Moody. “Weather hits and it just makes it that much harder to get to rodeos.”
PRCA photographer Chuck Minor captured Moody’s 85-point ride in Bismarck. “I like to show the athletic ability of both athlete and animal. If they are both showcasing their abilities, then that’s a winner,” he stated.
