Omaha, Neb. (May 22, 2024) – The popular country song Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson could be the anthem for the Mother’s Day weekend rodeo. Young children accompanied my family members and friends were entertained by the inaugural Tangier Shrine PRCA Rodeo. Featured specialty act was Rider and Bethany Kiesner performing trick roping, whip cracking, gun spinning and trick riding stunts.
Bareback Rider Gauge McBride from Kearney won $1,166 riding his bucking horse. The 22-year-old Nebraskan competed during the final performance. It paid off. He drew bareback horse D6 of the Barnes PRCA Rodeo string and scored 81.5 points.
“I didn’t plan on going to Springfield at first, I had planned to kinda take a weekend off,” he explained, “But, I seen there were some good horses out and it was only two hours from the house. So, I figured I had better go and it was a great decision. Was a great rodeo with a great arena and crowd,” he admitted.
McBride is currently number one in the Prairie Circuit Standings at the time of press. “Last year I won the year end in the Prairie Circuit and I would love to do it again this year, there’s a lot of great rodeos left in the circuit and Springfield, was a great start,” texted McBride.
The Prairie Circuit is made up of three states Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. The Springfield, Neb. rodeo was also co-sanctioned with the Great Lakes Circuit drawing in contestants from across the region and collegiate rodeo contestants from Hawaii.
Norfolk native Austin Hurlburt won the Tie-Down Roping title. He roped his calf in 10 second flat to win $1,233.51 in prize money.
