“I was happy when I came back and had an old campaigner, I knew I had a chance at pulling a good check,” stated Breuer as he reflected on the reride draw.  “I really slowed down this year to concentrate on the circuit. I have three kids and a wife, I like to stay home more, and my body can’t take the full year of rodeoing,” Breuer explained.

Breuer is the reigning 2023 Badlands Circuit Finals champion.  His rodeo resume is lengthy on prorodeo.com and includes seven trips to the WNFR in Las Vegas and numerous wins including the Pendleton Round-up in 2015. He is the 2010 PRCA Resistol Bareback Riding Rookie of the Year; 2010 Intercollegiate Bareback Riding Champion; 2008 Reserve National High School Finals Rodeo Champion and three-time North Dakota bareback riding state champion, 2006-08.

Jackson Kloos and Carson Giere, upcoming fourth graders from Hawley had the chance to meet Breuer before the rodeo. “I remember being that little guy at a rodeo,” said Breuer during a phone interview and reflected on meeting contestants as a kid himself when his father was rodeoing back in the 1990s. “We were raised to be kind to everyone. I can pick out those kids watching us,” he explained.

The WNFR go-round winner took time to talk with both boys, pose for a photograph and answer their questions prior to the performance.

“It was great to meet Ty before the rodeo and then see him win it all. Now I want to be a bareback rider too,” stated Kloos via text from his mother Crystal’s phone a few days later.  His mom texted back with a message reading, “he was practicing the very next day!”

Nine-year-old Kloos is a regular at the rodeo since 2015. He’s been attending since he was 10-months old with his mom.  Kloos competes in the ‘Lil Riders Rodeo series and decided to hang up his cowboy hat and focus on baseball until this past weekend.  Meeting Breuer was a game changer.

Giere matched his childhood friend’s attitude. “I had so much fun meeting Ty with Jackson. I can’t wait for the next year’s rodeo,” he said to his mother Tiffeny.

The annual community event was action packed with extremely large crowds both nights.
